By Adam Pavlacka, Special to Yahoo! Games

We've all watched a movie and said it: "I could do better." Well, now you can try and prove it. The latest creation from veteran designer Peter Molyneux serves double duty as both a sim-style empire building game and a movie-making creativity suite.

Players start the game with a simple studio and a single star. By managing the budget and producing films, you can slowly build your B-grade backlot into an empire big enough to rival Disney. Unlike other sim games, though, you do it all without menus, icons, or other such interface standards to take up precious screen space.

"I want you able to be playing this game within 5 minutes," said Molyneux in a recent demonstration. "We've put this game into the world. We've gotten rid of all the menus."

Instead of a traditional menu system, The Movies uses an intelligent display to show you the most relevant information at any given time. For example, if you want to see basic stats on one of your stars, simply highlight the character and a balloon will pop up with the details. If you need more details, keep the cursor on the character and the information tree will grow, adding more details until the entire screen is filled.

Rather cool. Don't know if I would ever get that but its sounds nice. Its for the PC. Then again, if I can play out movies and show them to friends and family (or on the net) why not? Its release date is in august of 2005.

I think this is referring to the Movies. This has been out for a while actually.

I think the movies game is actually a bit rubbish - It was very late in arriving on the shelves. Theres bog all by way of fluid motion from scene to scene or there were scenes that are effectivly useless (as an example - in the Sub Way set, you could have someone push another person onto the tracks, but there isn't anything it can link with) .

The game needs to much micro management to actually be fun... The actors and actresses get stressed / drunk / moody to quickly, and you have to either fire and hire at a huge rate to keep the actor/actress freshness up, or put with losing points on the film because your actors/actresses have been in more than 5 films in the last few months.

The game shouldn't have been released at all, because Lionhead could have made it so much better! - AS for Black and White 2 - suffice to say that Lionhead might not be around much longer - all due to their last 2 games not selling very well.
