Take a look... I am sure someone will have a DX widget doing this in a couple of weeks

For heavy Google users, this new sidebar is a must have, it offers very nice variety of options, and in the future will include many many more, after developers get cozy with the API, and you’ll start to see panels doing all kinds of things.

Something tells me we will be seeing advertising panels.

Nice, but DX is a better choice for something like that I think, especially where this requires Google Desktop.

DX may be able to do the widget part of it better, but I don't think it can learn your interests after a while, and so display what's most relevent to you. The news widget learns the type of articles that you click on the most, and, after a while, it can display what your interested in the most. For example, if you always choose sport-related headlines, but never technology-related ones, you'll get more news on sport, and less about technology. Also, the RSS and atom feed reader can automatically add feeds - dubbed "Web Clips" from sites that you often visit.

Of course, if someone does churn out a DX widget that does all of that, I'll shutup.

sidebars are the new thing lol j/k it just looks like the desktop sidebar i used to use (could do different plugins and stuff) AOL has a sidebar thing now, for it's AOL Suite Beta (allows you to use different AOL programs w/o having to load up the main client - but this bar is really small here's screenshot - look on left

the google one is to plain looking i think but, then again, i don't use many google products other than gmail

Desktop Sidebar Link is the way to go

I installed it today after seeing it on G4 this morning. It is ironic that some of the default RSS feeds have something to do with skinning...oh like ...Wincustomize...for example and AntiDeviantART...or wait, did it take from some RSS feeds I already have?

Google Paranoia sets in

on Aug 23, 2005
is it true that some of the rss feeds are from sites you visit that have rss for them??
on Aug 24, 2005
I don't know about Google Desktop. But what I know is that Desktop Sidebar can generate feeds for website that don't have RSS support

I can't quite trust the info-gathering in terms of privacy. Need more time to get an idea of the intent behind this product.
