don't you just love the word OBEY???
Published on March 10, 2005 By joeKnowledge In Religion
In my other forum post about the old testament I asked what does these statement mean when pulled from the Bible:

Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations

I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death...

Now in a thread made by another user it asked do we obey the 10 commandments (of which is also in the old testiment)

Here is my responce (please discuss, this is a forum thread so I can no delete posts)

I say what is wrong with this religion, and you will say, I will be damend to burn in hell if I don't believe your religon. Again the mystery and magis comes in. I am willing to stand up and account for my own deeds right now, right here every day, without the threat of hell, are you?

I agree.

I believe in God and the Bible but I don't do what I do because if I don't I will die in hell.

Hell is a place that, as far as I feel, doesn't exist as a place of fire and ice... it is more like ... if you ever loved someone and that person left you, do you remember how that felt?

Multiple that by infinity and you have you hell.

At any rate, as far as the initial post, isn't that in the OLD testament???? Didn't Jesus clarify these commandments? I think this question is a trick question. God does not ask you to obey as if your a slave, He asked you to folow him. Follow Him and obey is 2 different things. This is not word semantics either. Follow me and obey me is 2 totally different requests.

Jesus made the 10 Commandments into a more defined life lesson to follow, not a rule to obey. It is not written law, it is a very important request to try to follow to the best of your ability.

I don't understand how people who call themselves Christians still wish to hold the old testiment to the level of the new testimant. Jesus when though his life to feel what it is like to be human, why discount this? Of course the old testiment is important and should be read and understood, but come on guys!!! Remeber Jesus???

And another thing: we are suppossed to have a relationship with God, this is not a dictatorship. You can't have a relationship with a dictator, so the word OBEY is out the window entirely.

Maybe people forget that this is God and He could, literally, make us do anything he want us to without asking us ANYTHING. God is not a person or a king that says do something. If it is to be done, either he WILL make you do it or He would do it Himself.

So OBEY is not a word any Christian should still be using in terms of God or the Bible. Leave the world of Kings and realize you should be in a world of love and relationship with a friend.

Its hard to be a friend to a king.
